Ei Electronics, a Shannon based manufacturer of home safety devices, has submitted a planning application for a large rooftop solar installation at its facility in the Shannon Free Zone. The system would cover nearly 10,000 square metres across two buildings and include 1,010 photovoltaic panels. The company says the project will generate renewable electricity on existing roof space and does not require greenfield land. It also represents an expansion of the site's existing solar capacity. Submissions on the application are open until August 8th, with a decision expected from the local authority by August 31st. If approved, the installation would be one of the larger rooftop solar arrays in the region and could meaningfully reduce the facility's grid electricity demand. The project is a concrete example of industrial decarbonization through on site generation, avoiding the land use conflicts that sometimes come with ground mounted solar.
