Egypt Extends ACWA Power Green Hydrogen MoU, Allocates Land for ACURE Green Ammonia Solar Project
egyptoil-gas.comEgypt's National Council for Green Hydrogen approved a one-year extension of its MoU with ACWA Power for the East Nile project, which targets 66,000 tons of green hydrogen and 500,000 tons of green ammonia annually. The investment is over $4 billion. The council also allocated a 12 square kilometer plot in West Zaafarana to India's ACURE for a 600 MW solar plant to power the pilot phase of its green ammonia project, which aims for 100,000 tons per year initially and up to one million tons in later phases. The moves support Egypt's National Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy, which targets more than 42% renewable electricity by 2030. Egypt has introduced incentives under Law No. 2 of 2024, including VAT exemptions and discounted seaport services, and has signed multiple agreements with international developers. The land allocation and MoU extension show continued progress, though timelines and off-take agreements remain key details to watch.
