Egypt converts 754 diesel buses to natural gas in Cairo and Alexandria as part of cleaner transport push

Egypt has completed the first two phases of a project to convert public buses from diesel to natural gas in Cairo and Alexandria. A total of 754 buses have been converted so far, which is 33 percent of the target of 2,262 buses. Phase one delivered 377 buses and phase two added another 377, with 654 buses in Cairo and 100 in Alexandria. The project is being rolled out in six phases to avoid disrupting public transport services. Officials say the shift to natural gas is part of Egypt's broader strategy to cut emissions, improve air quality in major cities, and reduce reliance on traditional fuels. The conversion program supports the country's transition to a greener economy and modernizes its public transport infrastructure.
