EGA opens UAE's largest aluminum recycling plant with 185,000 tonnes per year capacity in Al Taweelah
news.metal.comEmirates Global Aluminum has started operations at its new recycling facility in Al Taweelah, Abu Dhabi. The plant can process 185,000 tonnes of aluminum scrap each year, making it the largest recycling plant in the UAE. It turns post-consumer and selected pre-consumer scrap into low-carbon billets and T-bars sold under the RevivAL brand. Some of these recycled products are blended with aluminum made using solar power from EGA's CelestiAL brand or nuclear power from its MinimAL brand. Commercial production began in February 2026, and the plant is expected to reach full capacity within six months, depending on scrap supply. EGA's total global recycling capacity now exceeds 400,000 tonnes per year, including this plant and a planned acquisition in Italy. Another 200,000 tonnes of recycling capacity is under development in Europe and the United States. The expansion of aluminum recycling is important because recycled aluminum uses only about 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminum, which significantly reduces carbon emissions. This project shows how industrial companies are scaling up recycling to meet demand for low-carbon materials.
