EEX Launches UK Carbon Allowance Futures Trading
londoninsider.co.ukThe European Energy Exchange (EEX) has introduced trading for UK Emission Allowances (UKA), providing a new venue for companies to manage carbon compliance. The first trade for a December 2026 contract was completed between Centrica and CFP Energy. This move expands the financial instruments available within the UK's domestic carbon market, which was established after the country left the EU Emissions Trading System in 2020. The new futures and options contracts help industrial entities and power plants hedge against price volatility in carbon credits.
