Eden Innovations (ASX:EDE) reported that trials of its EdenCrete carbon nanotube concrete additive in India delivered stronger concrete with lower cement content. Tests with the Central Road Research Institute and private developers showed a 28% reduction in road concrete abrasion and 10-20% extra strength in high-strength mixes. The additive lets producers replace expensive cement and micro silica with fly ash and slag, cutting costs and emissions. India is the world's second-largest construction growth market, with record infrastructure spending of US$135 billion planned for FY2026-27. Eden plans to expand trials in Delhi and other high-rise construction hubs and increase staffing. If commercial scale replicates trial results, India could become a major market for EdenCrete. Yeah, the cement reduction is the real story. Cement production is like 8% of global CO2. If EdenCrete can scale and actually replace significant volumes of clinker, that matters. But these are trial results. Need to see commercial scale numbers before getting excited.

Right, scale is everything. India builds 4km of concrete highway per day. Even a small percentage reduction in cement per cubic meter adds up fast. But the article doesn't say how much EdenCrete costs per cubic meter versus the savings from less cement. That payback math will decide adoption.

Also worth noting the Indian government is spending $135B on infrastructure. If they mandate lower-carbon concrete for public projects, that could force adoption. Otherwise it's just a cost play for private developers. Policy tailwinds matter a lot here.

Fly ash and slag availability is another constraint. India produces a lot of fly ash from coal plants, but coal is being phased down. Slag depends on steel production. Long term, the additive needs to work with whatever SCMs are available. Not a given.

Good point. The article mentions CRRI testing M60 and M40 grades. Those are structural grades. If the additive works across all common grades, that's a bigger addressable market. But trial scope sounds limited to Delhi region so far.
