A new EcoVadis Sustainability Ratings Index report finds that 80% of tier 1 suppliers have no documented process for managing sustainability risks in their supply chains. The survey also reveals that 73% of suppliers lack Scope 3 upstream emissions reporting and 77% have no downstream tracking. Only 2% have an external grievance mechanism for workers to report human rights violations, and fewer than 1% provide decision-grade sustainability data to buyers. The report highlights a disconnect between corporate buyer tools and supplier data readiness. While 68% of corporate buyers have deployed AI tools for sustainable procurement, 30% of suppliers provide no carbon data and 26% supply only aggregated estimates. On the positive side, environmental scores rose 9.6 points on average over four years, and the share of companies reaching Advanced+ status more than doubled from 17% in 2021 to 38% in 2025. However, 78% of rated companies still lack science-based carbon reduction targets.
