ECOPact low-carbon concrete from Holcim cuts embodied CO2 by up to 50% in US building projects

Holcim's ECOPact low-carbon concrete is now available for US commercial projects, offering up to 50% reduction in embodied CO2 compared to standard mixes. The product replaces a portion of Portland cement with supplementary materials like fly ash or slag, while maintaining the same strength and workability for structural applications such as slabs, beams, and foundations. Contractors in the Northeast, Midwest, and West Coast can order ECOPact through Holcim's ready-mix network, with pricing that typically carries a modest premium offset by green building incentives or sustainability-linked financing. ECOPact is designed to meet standard US strength classes (4,000 to 6,000 psi) and durability requirements for freeze-thaw resistance and chloride penetration. The product supports compliance with buy-clean policies in states like California and New York, and helps developers hit LEED or BREEAM targets. While not every project can use the highest carbon reduction variant due to curing or schedule constraints, ECOPact gives contractors a practical option to lower embodied carbon without redesigning entire structures. Holcim faces competition from Cemex, Heidelberg Materials, and CRH, but ECOPact remains a key part of its strategy to meet 2030 emission targets.
