Econetix closes million-dollar CORSIA deal as airlines scramble for eligible carbon credits before 2028 deadline
carbonherald.comCarbon asset manager Econetix has completed its first delivery of Phase 1 CORSIA credits to a major commodity trading house, fulfilling a million-dollar offtake agreement. The deal comes as airlines face a January 2028 compliance deadline under the UN's CORSIA scheme, which requires them to offset emissions growth above 85% of 2019 levels. Eligible credit supply remains critically scarce, and Econetix is one of a few developers able to convert authorized projects into contracted, delivered volume. Econetix's next project is a cookstove initiative in Rwanda expected to deliver 1.3 million tonnes of Phase 1 eligible credits. The portfolio uses Tool 33 methodologies and Article 6 Letters of Authorization to prevent double counting. European regulatory changes, including a potential EU ETS extension to flights departing the EEA, could further tighten eligibility standards and increase demand for high-integrity credits.
