EcoGuard and CONFED Launch Digital Carbon Office for 3 Million Philippine Coconut Farmers
themachinemaker.comEcoGuard Global, a Swiss climate-tech firm, and the Confederation of Coconut Farmers Organizations (CONFED) have gone live with the CONFED Carbon Office, a digital platform on the Hedera network built to connect over 3 million coconut farmers to carbon markets. The platform handles project registration, digital MRV, documentation, and credit transactions, covering roughly 3.6 million hectares of coconut farmland. The first project onboarded is the Samar COCAL Agroforestry Project, expected to generate 200,000 carbon credits per year. The launch follows a Davos agreement and includes investment in the initial credit tranche. EcoGuard is working with Telenym for on-ground farmer connectivity and with Philippine government agencies. The system aims to support Article 6 compliance and reduce double counting through registry-grade traceability. Whether it delivers real income to smallholders will depend on how quickly projects scale and how verification holds up in practice.
