EcoGuard and CONFED Launch Carbon Office Platform for 3 Million Coconut Farmers in the Philippines
businessnewsthisweek.comThe Confederation of Coconut Farmers Organizations (CONFED) and Swiss-based EcoGuard Global have officially launched the CONFED Carbon Office, a digital carbon market platform serving over 3 million coconut farmers across roughly 3.6 million hectares in the Philippines. The platform handles project registration, digital MRV, carbon credit issuance, transfer, and retirement, using Hedera's distributed ledger for traceability and to reduce double-counting risk. The first project onboarded is the Samar COCAL Agroforestry Project, which could generate 200,000 credits annually, and EcoGuard has already purchased the initial tranche. The go-live moves the partnership from the January 2026 WEF Davos announcement to operational reality. The platform is designed to give smallholder farmers direct access to climate finance and international carbon markets, aligning with the Philippines' 2026-2030 voluntary forest carbon market roadmap. EcoGuard is also working with Telenym for farmer connectivity and national satellite initiatives for data collection. The company plans to replicate this model in India and other nature-based sectors.
