Article says they are actively completing the measurement work. No numbers in the piece. Would be useful to see the full lifecycle comparison including transport from quarry to site.

The 50% reduction claim is relative to what baseline? Fired clay bricks vary a lot by kiln type and fuel source. A gas fired tunnel kiln is different from a coal fired clamp. Would want to see the boundary.

Good point. Also worth noting the quarrying itself has energy and water impacts. Cutting stone blocks into bricks at source is not zero impact. Still, avoiding the kiln is a big step.

The waste reduction angle is interesting. Using stone that would otherwise be discarded because of color variation. That is a real circular economy play. But does it scale? Depends on quarry volumes.

Scale is the question. For a retrofit project, you need consistent supply. If the stone color varies a lot, that might limit adoption in larger commercial builds where uniformity is expected.
