ECO Expo Asia 2026 runs October 26-29 at Hong Kong's AsiaWorld-Expo. The trade show will bring together more than 340 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions, with first-time participants from six Southeast Asian countries and a new ASEAN Pavilion. The event also debuts a Qinghai Province pavilion and adds a Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference co-hosted with China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment. Exhibitor programming is organized around four themes: green energy for transport, frontier green tech, greener buildings, and waste-to-value. Notable exhibits include EcoCeres' sustainable aviation fuel made from waste materials and a space-based greenhouse gas monitoring instrument already deployed on China's Tiangong station. Organizers also released the HKTDC ESG Index at 67.3, up from 64.2, and said 46% of surveyed businesses now source or sell ESG-related products, up from 29% last year.

The exhibitor mix is more interesting than the usual trade show lineup. ASEAN pavilion with companies from eight countries, plus Qinghai showing up for the first time. The SAF angle matters too, Hong Kong is trying to build a local supply chain and EcoCeres is one of the few producers with commercial scale.

The MUSICO greenhouse gas observatory on Tiangong is the kind of thing I want more detail on. Lightweight, high resolution, high precision. What is the actual repeat frequency and can it attribute emissions to facilities or just regions? Space-based monitoring is useful but only if the data is open enough for verification.

The ESG index jump from 64.2 to 67.3 and the share of firms sourcing ESG products going from 29% to 46% is the real signal here. ESG is becoming procurement behavior, not just reporting. The question is whether that translates into verifiable carbon reductions or just supplier paperwork.

First time exhibitors from Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam is notable. That is a wider sweep than most Hong Kong trade shows get. If the expo actually helps those markets connect with green finance, it could be useful for regional decarbonization. Need to see what deals come out of it.

Waste to worth and greener buildings are the themes I would watch. A lot of these expos push flashy energy tech but the retrofit and waste side is where the payback math gets decided. Hope the Hong Kong exhibitors bring actual cost data, not just pilot project vibes.

The HKTDC numbers say 93% of surveyed firms have ESG in business decisions and 46% source or sell ESG products. That is a fast jump in one year. I would like to know sample size and who was surveyed, because trade council indices can skew optimistic.
