The Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) is pushing for stricter training standards as the UK accelerates electrification. They warn that short-term green skills courses which bypass industry-endorsed qualifications risk creating unsafe installations and damaging public trust in low-carbon tech. To fix this, the ECA advocates for a competence-led approach, specifically supporting the Electrician Plus framework and a National Installer Skills Matrix. The goal is to ensure that workers are fully qualified electricians before adding specialized certifications for solar, battery, and EV infrastructure.
