East Devon Climate Strategy Delayed Over Public Access Problems
exmouthjournal.co.ukEast Devon District Council has postponed its updated climate strategy and action plan after councillors discovered that the public could not access the supporting documents. The papers, which outline how the council will work toward becoming carbon neutral by 2040, were meant to be considered at a Cabinet meeting on October 7 but were deferred for a month. The delay came after Councillor Dan Ledger said he could not open the appendices, and the council's governance director confirmed that the public had the same problem. The council's carbon footprint has fallen by 20 percent since the 2018/19 baseline, according to climate change officer Catherine Causley. The new strategy covers 2025 to 2040 and spans housing, council buildings, vehicles, procurement, and planning. The council will now bring the updated strategy back to Cabinet after the documents are made publicly available. The deferral also gives time for a completed financial assessment, as the report's financial-comments section was left blank.
