Awards like this are fine, but the real test is whether the winners actually publish numbers. The criteria mention measurable reductions, so hopefully they show the methodology. Otherwise it is just a badge.

Hornsea 3 sponsoring this makes sense. The project is huge, but the interesting part is how much offshore wind gets curtailed when the grid cannot take it. Would be good if the award asked about how companies handle matching demand with intermittent supply.

The criteria say senior management buy-in and one owner. That is a decent filter, but I would like to see verification of the carbon baselines. Self-reported net zero plans without third-party checks tend to be weak on scope 3 emissions.

For local businesses, the practical wins are usually in heating and lighting. If the award pushes them to meter their energy use first, that is more useful than another pledge. Hope the entry process forces them to show actual kWh saved.
