E.ON picks Capsol for carbon capture feasibility study at Norrkoping biomass and waste-to-energy plant

The study will look at capturing up to 500,000 tonnes of CO2 per year using Capsol's solvent-based technology. Capsol won the contract through a competitive tender and will work with a strategic engineering partner on the assessment. Biomass and waste-to-energy plants are a natural fit for carbon capture because the CO2 from burning biomass can produce negative emissions when stored. Capsol says its technology includes built-in heat recovery, which can lower operating costs compared to older capture methods. The study is classified as standard contract value, meaning it is not a major revenue event but signals continued engagement with a large European utility. The deal strengthens Capsol's position in the growing market for carbon capture on biogenic CO2 sources. If the feasibility study leads to a full-scale project, it could set a template for similar retrofits across E.ON's other sites in Europe.
