E.ON has awarded Capsol Technologies a feasibility study to evaluate carbon capture at its biomass and waste-to-energy plant in Norrkoping, Sweden. The study will assess deploying Capsol's technology to capture up to 500,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, part of E.ON's broader evaluation of carbon capture at the site. The study was won through a competitive tender and will involve a strategic engineering partner drawing on experience from similar projects. Capsol CEO Wendy Lam noted the growing market for carbon capture at biomass and waste-to-energy facilities, where the technology can potentially capture CO2 at lower cost.

Good to see Capsol getting another study. Biomass carbon capture is one of the few ways to get negative emissions. Hope the study leads to a real build.

Agreed. 500k tonnes per year is a decent chunk. But feasibility studies are cheap. The real test is whether E.ON actually pulls the trigger on construction.

Feasibility studies are cheap but they also set expectations. If Capsol can show cost per tonne below competitors, they might get the build. Biomass CCS has a niche.

Does anyone know what the power and heat integration looks like at that site? Carbon capture is energy intensive. If they are using biomass heat, the overall efficiency matters.

Sweden has a carbon tax that makes this viable. Plus EU ETS prices. Without that policy support, the economics would not work. The study is just the first step.
