E.ON and Capsol Technologies partner for carbon capture feasibility study at Norrkoping waste-to-energy plant
marketscreener.comE.ON has selected Capsol Technologies ASA to conduct a feasibility study for carbon capture at its waste-to-energy plant in Norrkoping, Sweden. The study will evaluate the technical and economic viability of installing Capsol's hot potassium carbonate capture technology at the facility. If the study leads to a full-scale project, it could capture tens of thousands of tonnes of CO2 annually from the plant's flue gas stream. The Norrkoping plant processes non-recyclable waste to generate heat and electricity for the local district heating network. Adding carbon capture would turn the facility from a net emitter into a potential carbon sink, with the captured CO2 intended for permanent storage or use in industrial applications. Capsol's technology is marketed as having lower energy penalties compared to amine-based systems, which could improve the overall economics of the project. The feasibility study is expected to be completed within the next several months. A positive outcome could lead to a larger engineering and design phase, though no timeline for a final investment decision has been announced.
