saultstar.comGarden River First Nation and Neoen are developing the Dunns Valley Solar project, a 200 MW solar farm on Shaw Road north of Thessalon, Ontario. The project will supply enough electricity for 40,000 homes and is set to be the largest solar farm in the province. Construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2028 and take 18 to 24 months, with operations beginning in the first quarter of 2030. The First Nation holds a 50 percent ownership stake. Up to 300 full-time jobs are projected during peak construction. A public information session is scheduled for August 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wharncliffe Community Hall. Project staff will be present, and a development report will be available. The project was awarded a 20-year contract by Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator. Neoen, the global renewable energy company behind the project, was acquired by Brookfield Renewable Holdings in 2025. The venture sits on 1,038 acres of land managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
