Dublin Airport rejects carbon budget overshoot report as Government moves to lift passenger cap
independent.ieDublin Airport is pushing back on a report that says it could use up its estimated share of a 2050 carbon budget by 2034. The report from Opportunity Green gives the airport a fair share allowance of about 27 million tonnes of CO2 from 2025 to 2050. DAA says the budget is hypothetical and that the airport is meeting official targets verified by the SEAI. The dispute matters because the Irish Government is moving to lift the passenger cap at Dublin Airport. The cap was originally a planning condition tied to surface access, not a climate measure. But the report argues more passengers means more aviation emissions, with an extra 14 million tonnes if numbers reach 60 million by 2050. International aviation emissions are outside Ireland's Climate Action Plan, which leaves a gap between national targets and actual flight growth.
