DTE Energy is expanding its CleanVision Natural Gas Balance program, a voluntary add-on that lets Michigan households and small businesses pay a fixed monthly fee to support renewable natural gas and carbon offsets. The program now offers new price tiers, making it accessible to more customers who want to reduce the climate impact of their gas usage without switching heating equipment. The program works by aggregating customer contributions to purchase renewable natural gas credits from methane capture projects and verified carbon offsets from forestry and other initiatives. Customers choose a participation level representing 25%, 50%, or 100% of their estimated gas usage, and pay a predictable monthly charge. DTE retires the environmental attributes on behalf of participants. CleanVision Natural Gas Balance sits alongside DTE's electric-focused MIGreenPower program as part of the utility's strategy to give customers direct participation in funding lower-carbon energy projects. For customers who cannot easily electrify their heating, the program provides a way to support emissions reductions while keeping existing gas appliances.
