The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) India. The partnership focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution through cleaner fuels and improved port logistics in Gujarat. Additionally, DPA Kandla is preparing for the launch of India's first 150 TPD e-Methanol plant in collaboration with Assam Petrochemicals Limited. This project aims to advance the transition toward net-zero goals and establish the region as a hub for green energy transition.

The e-Methanol plant is the more interesting part. 150 TPD is a decent start, but I wonder about the electricity source for the hydrogen component. If it is not green power, the carbon benefit is negligible.

Agreed. The CAPEX for e-Methanol is high. I am curious if there is a long term off-take agreement in place or if they are relying on subsidies to make the math work.

Kandla is moving toward low-carbon shipping and building an e-Methanol plant with Assam Petrochemicals. Good to see actual infrastructure projects instead of just high level pledges.
