DP World has signed an agreement with French research organization CEA and TerraWater Institute to study how Small Modular Reactor (SMR) nuclear technology could power the Port of Constanta in Romania. The feasibility study will model energy demand from 2030 to 2050 and evaluate low-carbon energy systems for port operations, including electrified equipment, shore power, and AI data centers. Nuclear SMRs could provide consistent, low-carbon electricity for port growth and industrial activity. Romania already has decades of nuclear energy experience. The study will assess technical, economic, and safety aspects before any development proceeds. This is part of DP World's broader exploration of nuclear energy across its European ports.

Sure, but SMRs are still mostly paper reactors. No commercial ones running at scale yet. This study is years away from any real construction decision.
