DP World invests $1M in Hapag-Lloyd Ship Green biofuel program for ocean freight carbon insets

The investment spans four quarters and is expected to avoid 4,762 tonnes of CO2. DP World's ocean freight customers will get verified carbon insets tied directly to their cargo movements, replacing conventional marine fuel with lower-carbon alternatives. Unlike offsets that compensate for emissions elsewhere, insetting reduces emissions within the transport chain. Hapag-Lloyd says the certified waste-based biofuels cut greenhouse gases by at least 84% on a well-to-wake basis. The program lets cargo owners lower transport emissions now without waiting for large-scale alternative-fuel vessels. The deal expands Hapag-Lloyd's push to commercialize lower-carbon shipping through partnerships with logistics providers. DP World's Americas freight forwarding head said the agreement delivers measurable emissions reductions while supporting the company's own sustainability targets.
