DP World invests $1 million in low-carbon shipping with Hapag-Lloyd for verified carbon insets using waste-based biofuels
globenewswire.comDP World's Americas ocean freight division is investing $1 million in Hapag-Lloyd's Ship Green product to help customers cut emissions from ocean freight shipments. The investment, spread over four quarters, is expected to avoid 4,762 tonnes of CO2 by using certified waste-based biofuels instead of conventional marine fuels. These biofuels can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 84% on a well-to-wake basis, covering the full lifecycle from production to use onboard. Unlike traditional carbon offsets that compensate for emissions after they happen, Hapag-Lloyd's Ship Green product uses carbon insetting, which reduces emissions directly within the ocean freight supply chain. The emissions reductions are independently tracked and allocated to participating customer shipments. This partnership gives DP World customers a verified way to lower the carbon footprint of their ocean freight and support broader supply chain decarbonization goals.
