Early results include a 78% emissions reduction on the Chennai-Kolkata corridor by shifting cargo from road to multimodal rail and coastal shipping, and a 45% volume increase for an African retailer with only a 5% fleet expansion. DP World's carbon insetting programmes at Southampton and London Gateway generated over 9,400 tonnes of verified CO2 insets in 2025 across 257,000 TEU of cargo. The platform aims to turn sustainability goals into measurable operational change.

Verification is the key question. ISO 14083 is a standard but does not guarantee third-party auditing. If DP World is serious about insetting, they need independent verification to avoid the same credibility issues that plague offsets.

The multimodal shift in India sounds promising but the infrastructure for rail and coastal shipping is not evenly available. This only works on specific corridors. Without grid upgrades for electric rail, the emissions benefit is real but capped.

Exactly. The corridor example is a cherry-pick. Most supply chains do not have a rail alternative that works. Real decarbonisation in logistics will also need fleet electrification and that depends on grid capacity at ports and depots.

The 45% volume increase with only 5% more trucks is the most interesting number to me. That is pure efficiency gain. If they can replicate that across more clients, the cumulative emissions reduction adds up without needing new tech.
