DP World launched EcoRoute, a suite of logistics solutions aimed at cutting supply chain emissions while improving efficiency. The program includes network optimization, modal shift to rail and coastal shipping, electric transport, and carbon insetting programs that reduce Scope 3 emissions within customer supply chains. In India, one customer cut transport emissions by 78% on the Chennai-Kolkata corridor by switching from truck to multimodal rail and coastal shipping. EcoRoute also offers a Carbon Emissions Calculator aligned with ISO 14083 for end-to-end visibility across transport modes. DP World reports generating over 9,400 tonnes of verified CO2 insets in 2025 across 257,000 TEU at Southampton and London Gateway. The program targets the roughly 10% of global energy-related CO2 emissions that come from freight and logistics, giving businesses a way to address regulatory and investor pressure on emissions.

The modal shift numbers from India are the most concrete part here. 78% emission cut on one corridor is real if the rail and coastal infrastructure actually exists. Would like to see what share of their total volume gets that treatment.

The insetting numbers are interesting too. 9,400 tonnes across 257k TEU works out to about 37 kg per container. That is not huge per unit but it is verified and inside their own value chain rather than buying random offsets.

I want to know what powers the electric transport and the warehouses. If the grid is still fossil heavy the well to wheel math changes. Modal shift matters more than fuel switching in most ports right now.

ISO 14083 alignment on the calculator is a good sign for regulatory use. If companies can use this for CSRD or similar reporting it adds real value. Otherwise it is just a marketing dashboard.

The Africa example with 45% more volume on only 5% more fleet is more about logistics optimization than carbon tech. That is fine but it is not really an emission story. It is a utilization story.

Utilization still cuts per unit emissions even if the fleet is diesel. Running trucks full instead of half full is a real reduction. Not glamorous but it works.
