DP World EcoRoute: Cutting Logistics Carbon Emissions with Modal Shifts and Carbon Insetting
sustainabilitymag.comDP World launched EcoRoute, a suite of logistics solutions aimed at cutting carbon emissions from freight and supply chains. The logistics sector accounts for 10% of global energy-related CO2 emissions, and DP World's approach includes modal shift programs, electric transport, alternative fuels, and eco-friendly warehouses. The company also offers a Carbon Emissions Calculator and carbon insetting programs that generated over 9,400 tonnes of verified CO2 insets in 2025 across 257,000 TEU of cargo flows. EcoRoute targets Scope 3 emissions, which make up 75% of a company's carbon footprint, by providing real-time visibility through a Logistics Control Tower. DP World helped a major African retailer increase transported volumes by 45% with only a 5% fleet increase, using an 88% improvement in vehicle utilisation. The initiative combines modal shifts, alternative fuels, and data sharing to help logistics companies and their clients reduce emissions without sacrificing supply chain performance.
