DP World cuts over 160,000 tonnes of CO2e in UK supply chains with rail, HVO trucks, and carbon insets

DP World has helped UK supply chains cut more than 160,000 tonnes of CO2e since 2023. The logistics operator increased rail freight share at its Southampton terminal from 21% to over 30%, moving more than 200,000 truck journeys off the road. It also runs a Low Carbon Truck Programme that lets hauliers use hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) at no extra cost, plus an electric HGV trial called EVITA. The company's Carbon Inset Programme now covers over 250,000 TEUs of cargo, with per-container credits raised from 50kg to 250kg of CO2e. New Container Terminal Inset Certificates let customers count emissions cuts from electrification and renewable electricity toward their own targets. The story is a concrete example of how port operators can drive supply chain decarbonization through modal shift, fuel switching, and verified inset credits.
