Douglas County has awarded an $8 million contract to Bauen Studios to construct a biochar facility in Sedalia, Colorado. The project aims to reduce wildfire risk by converting biomass and green waste into biochar, a stable form of carbon used in agriculture to improve soil health and sequester carbon. This facility will serve as the center of the Douglas County GreenWorks initiative, providing a centralized location for residents to dispose of slash, mulch, and other organic waste. Construction is expected to take eight to nine months.
