Dongwha Natural Maru gets first Korean carbon storage certification for wood flooring | carboncredit.io

Dongwha Enterprise's Dongwha Natural Maru brand has become the first wood flooring brand in South Korea to receive official carbon storage certification from the Korea Forest Service. The certification, issued under the country's wood product carbon storage labeling system, measures the carbon dioxide sequestered in wood products made from domestically harvested timber. Five products were certified, storing between 34 and 38 kg of CO2 per 3.3 square meters, roughly equivalent to one pyeong, a traditional Korean unit of floor area. For a typical 84-square-meter apartment, installing certain certified flooring lines like Jin Origin or Jin Grande Square can sequester up to 956 kg of CO2. Dongwha Enterprise had previously obtained carbon storage certification for its board products, including particleboard, MDF, and HDF, which collectively contribute to an annual reduction of roughly 480,000 metric tons of CO2. This development highlights how building materials can play a role in carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation.
