DongSung Finetec, a unit of DongSung Chemical, presented its new HFO R-PUF insulation for LNG carriers at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok. The material replaces conventional HFC-based blowing agents with HFO-based ones that have lower global warming potential, cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 33% per DNV verification. Thermal conductivity during cryogenic operation also improves by up to 6%. The product received technical approval from GTT last December, and DongSung Finetec plans to apply it to vessels under construction starting next year. The company is positioning this as part of its ECOTECO brand and expects to expand adoption in global LNG carrier projects. This move reflects a broader industry shift toward reducing the carbon footprint of LNG shipping, which is still a major part of the energy transition.
