DNV Verifies Carbon Ridge Onboard Carbon Capture System Achieves 98% CO2 Capture Rate on Commercial Vessel
carbonherald.comCarbon Ridge has received independent verification from DNV that its centrifugal onboard carbon capture and storage system achieved peak CO2 capture rates of 98% during a five-month pilot aboard the STI Spiga, a 109,999 dwt product tanker operated by Scorpio Tankers. The system was installed during a scheduled drydock in July 2025 and operated while the vessel remained in commercial service, with more than half of recorded observations falling within an 86-98% capture range. This marks the first maritime deployment of a centrifugal OCCS technology to receive DNV verification under its Recommended Practice for performance verification. The result supports the case for onboard carbon capture as a practical compliance and decarbonization solution for shipowners facing tightening emissions regulations. Carbon Ridge plans to scale the technology across the global fleet based on data from this trial.
