Classification society DNV has validated Carbon Ridge's centrifugal onboard carbon capture and storage (OCCS) system, confirming it can achieve CO2 capture rates up to 98%. The verification used DNV's Recommended Practice for OCCS performance testing. This marks the first maritime deployment of a centrifugal OCCS system. The pilot ran for five months starting July 2025 on a 109,999 dwt LR2 product tanker owned by Scorpio Tankers Inc. Exactly. DNV validation is a good sign but this was a slipstream test on part of the exhaust. Full stack retrofit on a working tanker is a different ballgame.

Anyone know the power draw for that centrifugal system? If it eats up a meaningful fraction of the engine output, the economics get tight fast.

Retrofit cost and deck space are the real limiters here. A 109k DWT tanker has room, but smaller vessels won't. And shipyard time is expensive.
