DL E&C has signed a contract with Korea East-West Power to build the Dongjeju Complex Power Plant, a 150MW gas-fired facility in Jeju. The plant will include synchronous circuit breakers for grid stability and hydrogen-ready turbines for future conversion to clean hydrogen power generation. Completion is expected by 2030. Jeju aims to become carbon free by expanding renewables, which currently supply about 20% of its electricity. This plant is designed to back up intermittent solar and wind power while maintaining high fuel efficiency at partial load. DL E&C will apply its Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) method to improve productivity and reduce costs. The project reflects South Korea's broader strategy to shift from coal to gas and eventually hydrogen, as outlined in the 11th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand. Hydrogen power generation is seen as a way to cut CO2 emissions while reusing existing infrastructure.
