Vectar Energy founder Deborah Fadeyi called for more investment in distributed solar as a way to unlock climate finance and expand energy access across Africa. Speaking at the ecoWise Summit in London, she said distributed solar sits at the intersection of energy access, diesel displacement, industrialization, and economic resilience. Fadeyi noted that carbon finance can help close the financing gap for these projects but is not a silver bullet. The summit focused on making distributed solar projects financeable and procurement-ready. Speakers from SEforALL and RMI stressed the need for better aggregation, simpler carbon market methodologies, and lower verification costs for smaller developers. Vectar Energy demonstrated its digital MRV platform ecoWise, which aggregates and verifies carbon credits from distributed solar projects. The company is already talking to corporate buyers about forward purchase agreements for credits from Nigerian solar projects.
