DHL is expanding its use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to tackle the hardest part of aviation decarbonization: long-haul flights. By utilizing a book-and-claim system and signing long-term offtake agreements, the company aims to reach a 30 percent SAF share by 2030. While SAF currently makes up a small fraction of global fuel supply, DHL is using its procurement power to make new production plants bankable. The strategy focuses on moving from isolated pilot projects to a multi-regional operating model across Europe, Asia, and North America.
