The initiative covers two main projects: a soil organic carbon enhancement effort across roughly 80,000 hectares and an alternate wetting and drying paddy cultivation project over about 30,000 hectares. The goal is to improve soil health, reduce water use, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and increase farmer income through carbon finance. PRITHU plans to invest around Rs 5 crore over three years and expects these projects to generate roughly Rs 250 crore in additional farmer revenue. District officials say farmers will receive training in scientific farming, soil management, water efficiency, and how carbon markets work. The alternate wetting and drying for paddy is a well known methane reduction method. If they actually monitor and verify the emissions cuts, this could generate real carbon credits. The training component for farmers is key too. Without that, adoption will be slow.
