Denmark has awarded cement producer Portland a $2.6 billion grant for a large-scale carbon capture project at its Aalborg plant. The project aims to capture and store CO2 emissions from cement production, one of the hardest industrial sectors to decarbonize. This is one of the largest single government grants for industrial carbon capture in Europe. The funding covers construction of capture infrastructure and storage logistics. If successful, the project could serve as a template for cutting emissions from cement and other heavy industries. The captured CO2 is expected to be transported and stored offshore under the North Sea.
