A study by researchers from JNU and DU reveals that Delhi's urban forests, particularly species like Neem and Babool, are absorbing significant amounts of carbon. The research highlights that a substantial portion of this carbon storage occurs underground in the soil. Findings suggest that one hectare of urban forest can store nearly 346,900 kg of CO2. This sequestration capacity could potentially generate over 4 lakh rupees per hectare through the sale of carbon credits.
