Delhi Government Seeks Bids to Monetize Carbon Credits From Electric Buses, Tree Planting, and Waste Management
government.economictimes.indiatimes.comThe Delhi government has invited bids to empanel three consultancies that will generate and monetize carbon credits from its green initiatives. Eligible projects include electric bus operations, tree plantation, and waste management. The selected agencies will assess emission reductions, prepare documentation, register projects with recognized carbon standards, and handle validation, verification, issuance, and trading. Revenue from credit sales will go into the state's Consolidated Fund or a designated GNCTD account. The tender follows a cabinet-approved Carbon Credit Monetization Framework from January 2026. The RFP notes Delhi's emissions are led by the energy sector, followed by transport, industry, waste, and buildings, and identifies renewable energy, efficiency, sustainable transport, waste management, and circular economy projects as priority areas. An indicative estimate in the document puts potential emission reductions at 25-30 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year in the medium term, though the city's carbon accounting and MRV systems are not yet fully operational. Bids are due four weeks after the September 15 RFP release, with a pre-bid conference scheduled for September 30. The empanelment will run for three years, and bidders need at least 80 marks in technical evaluation to move to the financial stage.
