Deep Sky has issued the first certified direct air capture credits in North America from its Deep Sky Alpha facility in Alberta, Canada. The credits were verified under Isometric's Direct Air Capture Protocol and carry the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market's Core Carbon Principles label, making them the first CCP-labeled DAC credits globally. The credits account for all project emissions and require long-term monitoring to confirm permanent underground storage. Deep Sky will deliver these credits to Microsoft and Royal Bank of Canada under a multi-year agreement running through 2034. The plant went from construction to injection in 18 months, and Deep Sky has also signed partnerships with TD Bank, Lufthansa Group, ENGIE, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. This milestone provides a real-world proof point for DAC certification and scalability. It shows that rigorous verification is possible for engineered carbon removal, which could help build buyer confidence in the voluntary carbon market. The next question is whether Deep Sky can maintain this pace as it moves toward larger commercial operations.
