The maritime industry faces a gap between net zero ambitions and actual implementation. Transitioning to a sustainable fleet requires a multi fuel strategy, as no single alternative fuel is currently available at the scale needed for global trade. Shipowners are encouraged to prioritize dual fuel configurations and operational optimizations to avoid stranded assets. Success depends on solving regulatory fragmentation between the IMO and EU. Establishing a global carbon levy and a transparent, data driven carbon credit scoring system is essential to incentivize real decarbonization and eliminate greenwashing in the shipping sector.
