A recent study by the CNC in France reveals that marketing and technical services, including data transfer and physical campaigns, are the primary drivers of carbon emissions in film distribution. While transportation for festivals and tours contributes to the footprint, it represents a smaller fraction than digital and promotional activities. To reduce environmental impact, distributors are adopting strategies such as eco-designing promotional materials, optimizing data transfers, and shifting to low-carbon transport. Case studies show that integrating sustainability into release strategies, such as using train travel for press tours, can align a film's message with its operational reality.
