Decarbonising cities with smart glass and green cement: ClearVue and Eden Innovations lead the way
stockhead.com.auAustralian companies are quietly reducing the carbon footprint of cities with smart building technologies. ClearVue Technologies (ASX:CPV) makes solar glass for high-rise facades that generates energy and cuts operational emissions. A Hong Kong government trial found its smart windows paid for themselves in 4.6 years, or 2.6 years with feed-in tariffs, offsetting 74% to 125% of a building's annual energy needs. Eden Innovations (ASX:EDE) uses carbon nanotubes to strengthen concrete while reducing cement content, targeting the 8% of global emissions from cement and lime. Its EdenCrete additive is already used in metro projects in Mumbai, US highways, and the port of Savannah. The company says 95% of projects win on cost alone. Calix (ASX:CXL) subsidiary Leilac signed a deal with Adani's Ambuja Cements in June 2026 for a commercial-scale project in India that could capture over 1 million tonnes of process CO2 per year using hybrid electric heating. Zeotech (ASX:ZEO) reports up to 40% carbon reduction in mining applications with its metakaolin product AusPozz. These technologies show that net-zero cities may look similar but perform very differently.
