De Beers 2025 Sustainability Report: Emissions Down 14%, Conservation and Traceability Progress
media-outreach.comDe Beers Group published its 2025 Sustainability Report, showing a 14% cut in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions since 2021. The company is working toward an SBTi-approved target to reduce its carbon footprint by one third by 2030. It also supports Envusa, a 520MW solar and wind portfolio in southern Africa, and is testing biofuels, tyre circularity, and kelp farming for carbon sequestration. The report highlights 375,000 acres managed for conservation, Angola's first Ramsar Wetland designation, and the birth of the 70th rhino calf on De Beers reserves in Botswana. On livelihoods, the company says it supported 2.6 offsite jobs for every onsite job and committed about USD70 million to Botswana's Diamonds for Development Fund. For provenance, the Tracr platform has now individually scanned over five million rough diamonds. The report covers progress, but the next phase depends on cutting Scope 3 emissions, electrifying mining equipment, and expanding renewable energy. Those are harder to verify and will matter more than the headline numbers.
