De Beers 2025 Sustainability Report: Emissions Down 14%, Renewable Energy and Conservation Progress
asianews.networkDe Beers Group published its 2025 sustainability report, showing a 14% cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2021 and progress toward a science-based target of a one third reduction by 2030. The company also highlighted 375,000 acres under conservation management in Southern Africa, support for the new Okavango Delta Ramsar site in Angola, and a 520MW renewable energy program through Envusa. The report covers livelihoods and provenance too. De Beers says it supported 2.6 offsite jobs for every onsite job, trained 500 more women through EntreprenHER, and passed 5 million rough diamonds scanned on its Tracr traceability platform. It also committed US$70 million to a Diamonds for Development Fund in Botswana. The numbers are mostly output metrics. Anyone evaluating the report should look for baseline details, the share of emissions reductions from operational changes versus accounting shifts, and whether the renewable energy and conservation work translates into measurable biodiversity and grid-level outcomes.
