DayOne and Sembcorp Partner on Integrated Data Center Power Systems With Renewable Energy and Storage in Asia
cleanthesky.comDayOne Data Centers and Sembcorp Utilities signed an agreement to explore integrated power and energy systems for data center projects across Asia. The partnership will look at on-site generation, electrical infrastructure, and renewable energy supply as part of DayOne's Bring Your Own Power approach, which brings energy planning into early construction. DayOne already has agreements in Malaysia covering about 1.5 GWp of solar capacity and 2.2 GWh of battery storage, and it targets 100% renewable energy by 2030 where market conditions allow. For the data center sector, the deal matters because power availability is becoming a bigger bottleneck than land or construction. Combining renewables, storage, and grid connection work into one contract could shorten project timelines and reduce the risk of delays. It also gives Sembcorp a path to sell energy services as AI infrastructure expands in the region. The caveat is the 2030 renewable target depends on market conditions, so actual delivery will depend on how much firm capacity the partnership can line up.
