The surge in AI power demand is pushing data center developers back toward natural gas. To balance immediate energy needs with net-zero targets, companies are exploring combined-cycle gas turbine plants integrated with carbon capture and storage (CCS). High capital costs remain a primary barrier, as adding carbon capture can more than double the expense of a standard gas plant. GE Vernova and Kiewit are now collaborating to streamline the design and engineering process to make these low-carbon power solutions more economically viable.
